Saluki Swimmer Recieves MVC Swimmer Of The Week Honors

Carbondale, Ill. - Sophomore swimmer Leane Pienaar was named the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week on Thursday. Pienaar placed first in all three events that she participated in during a non-conference dual meet against Drury University on October 26. This is the first time she has won this honor.
Swimmer of the Week honors are voted upon by conference officials based on nominations by coaches, sports information directors and athletic officials.
Pienaar won the 1,000 freestyle (10:24.83), the 200 individual medley (2:12.02) and the 500 freestyle (5:07.04) against Drury. The sophomore from Pretoria, South Africa currently holds the league's top times in all three of these events, setting the MVC-best time in the 1,000 freestyle and the 200 individual medley in the win (121-107) over Drury.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams resume action this weekend on Saturday in a conference dual meet versus rival Evansville, the start time is 2:00 p.m. at the SIU Student Rec Center Pool.
