Softball Stadium Adds Bleachers & Grass Field

Carbondale, Ill. - The new Southern Illinois University softball stadium has added bleachers and is in the process of laying down the grass on the field, which is called sportsturf. The dugouts and pressbox are also nearly complete. The newest additions can be seen in the attached photo gallery.
The stadium is in its sixth month of construction and is on schedule to be completed in early 2003. The groundwork began on June 1 and is under the watch of the SIU Athletic Department and Fager-McGee, the project supervisor.
The $1.5 million stadium will have a capacity of 500 and includes chairback seating. The facility will feature dugouts, a concession stand, bathrooms, lockerrooms, two batting cages, lights, a press box, training room, laundry facilities and an irrigation system. The new press box will include multiple phone lines.
