Women's Basketball falls at Drake, 81-55

DES MOINES, Iowa - Brandy Dahir scored 18 points and Jill Martin had a double-double 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Drake (14-9, 10-4) to a dominating 81-55 win over Southern Illinois (9-15, 5-10) earlier today at the Knapp Center.
The win marked the DU's sixth-straight, as the Bulldogs dropped SIU to 0-10 in its last 10 trips to Des Moines.
SIU shot a frigid 25 percent from the field, while DU caught fire for a boiling 72.7 percent (8-of-11) in the first seven minutes of the game.
The Bulldogs, who were scoring at will inside the paint and off the break, opened the game with a 23-7 run and led by as many as 19 before cruising to a comfortable, 46-29, lead at the half.
There wasn't much the Dawgs could do against theBulldogs, who seemingly couldn't miss en route to their blazing .633 field goal percentage (19-of-30) in the game's first 20 minutes.
The Bulldogs cooled off bit in the second half (55.2 percent), but continued to pick apart the Salukis underneath and in transition.
By the time it was all said and done, DU had outscored SIU, 40-10, in the paint and, 18-2, off the break. Not to mention, the Bulldogs scored 20 points off 14 Saluki turnovers.
SIU scored 33 of its points from three-point range, where it made a season-high 11-of-16 treys for 68.8 percent.
Jayme Sweere led the Salukis with 19 points on 7-of-16 field goals, including 5-of-8 from downtown. The Salukis were also outrebounded, 38-23, as their 18 boards marked a season-low.
Lindsay Whorton (12) and Linda Sayavongchanh (12) also scored double-digits for the Bulldogs.
SIU returns home for its final three games of the regular-season. The three-game homestand begins against Evansville on Feb. 26.
