PEORIA, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team posted a season-low 43 points falling to Bradley, 52-43, in Missouri Valley Conference play Thursday night in the Robertson Field House.
Southern (8-11, 4-6) led by as many as four through the first 10 minutes of play, but three Saluki turnovers and a key Bradley (6-13, 2-8) steal put the Braves up by six with 10:43 left in the first half. Six points was as close as SIU would get as Bradley led by as many as 14 in the second half to secure just their second MVC victory of the season.
The Salukis handed the Braves 28 points off of a season-high 24 turnovers in the loss.
Southern was also out-rebounded just 37-35. Offensively, the Braves grabbed 15 boards to SIU's nine, converting 10 second chance points and eight fast break points.
The front court trio of Carlai Moore, Gentry Dietz and Teresa Parker were the Salukis main source of offense combining for 31 points and 14 boards. Moore led the Salukis with 12 points and four boards, Dietz chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds, while Parker added nine points and three blocks.
The Saluki back court combined for just 12 points, as the Braves defense smothered the SIU guards. The Braves attempted 60 shots from the field compared to SIU's 48, the second-lowest total of the season.
The Braves' Amy Peters recorded a game-high 13 points, eight boards, adding three assists and two blocks, while point guard Jen Brown added 10 points and three steals.
Southern returns to action Saturday when they close out a three-game road stretch at Northern Iowa at 12:05 p.m. in the Panthers' West Gym.
