Two Former Salukis Earn Prestigious Postgraduate Scholarships

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Two former members of the Southern Illinois University track and field team were named as recipients of the 2007-08 Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarships for Careers in Athletics, the NCAA announced last week.
The NCAA Committee on Women's athletics and the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee joined together to sponsor 26 scholarships in the amount of $6,000 a piece. The two committees created the scholarship program in order to give minority and female candidates increased job opportunities in intercollegiate athletics.
Amarachi Ukabam, a former thrower, earned one of the 13 Women's Enhancement Postgraduate scholarships. She is currently attending graduate school at SIU.
Shalini Gogawale, a former distance runner, an Ethnic Minority Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship. Gogawale is currently working as an intern for the NCAA.
