Carl Bivens named MVFC Newcomer of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois redshirt freshman linebacker Carl Bivens has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week for his performance in Saturday's 31-9 win at Indiana State.

Making his second career start, Bivens led SIU in tackles for the second-straight week. He had eight stops on Saturday as the Salukis held Indiana State to 55 yards of total offense. That ties for the fourth-lowest offensive output allowed by SIU in school history. Bivens had 1.5 tackles for loss, including one sack and also added a quarterback hurry.
