Aiden McMahan named MVC Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois baseball senior Aiden McMahan was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. McMahan had 12 RBIs in SIU's perfect 5-0 week.

McMahan, a Wolf Lake, Ill., native, had 12 RBIs in only 12 at-bats for Southern Illinois in its 5-0 week. McMahan went 5-for-12 and had a double, triple, home run, 12 RBIs, four runs scored and two stolen bases. He slashed .417/.500/.917 for the week and had at least one RBI in all four games he played in. He went 1-for-2 with three walks and three RBIs in the win over Illinois and followed that up with a 3-for-4, 6 RBI performance in the series opener against Evansville—a game in which he was just a single shy of the cycle. McMahan had nine RBIs during SIU's three-game sweep of Evansville.

McMahan is SIU's second MVC Player of the Week this season, joining Will LaRue, who earned the honor on March 4. Additionally, freshman pitcher Sam Grace was named MVC Pitcher of the Week on March 25. SIU player have earned MVC Player of the Week honors four times over the last two seasons, the most for the program over a two-year stretch since 2005 and 2006.
