2023 was Austin Tribby's first season as SIU's pitching coach, replacing Tim Jamieson. It was his 3rd season as a Saluki assistant coach.
Tribby joined the Saluki Baseball staff as its director of pitching development in fall 2021. In 2022, assisting his college coach-Jamieson- with SIU's pitchers, Tribby helped a staff that led the MVC in wins, innings pitched and ERA (4.89). The Salukis were also second in the MVC in strikeouts and second in saves. Southern's 478 strikeouts were the second most in one season in school history. As a team, SIU was 44-16, 16-5. The Salukis won the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title for the first time in 32 years.
Prior to SIU, Tribby was an assistant coach at Missouri (2 seasons) and McKendree University (2 seasons).
Tribby was a standout pitcher under Jamieson at Missouri and was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 2016 MLB draft. He also began his coaching career at Missouri, serving as a graduate assistant pitching coach in 2018 and 2019. While Tribby was coaching at Missouri, the Tigers had back-to-back 34-win seasons, and the pitching staff ranked second in the SEC with a 3.24 ERA. At McKendree in 2020 and 2021, Tribby was the program's pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.Â
A native of Springfield, Mo., Tribby was a two-time All-State selection at Springfield Catholic High School. At Missouri, he made 90 appearances in his final three seasons and his 91 career appearances were fifth-most in program history when he graduated in 2016.Â
