Birmingham, Ala. - SIU (0-4) fell to UAB 11-7 Saturday (2/17) in the completion of a game started Friday (2/16). Billy Hardin (0-2) suffered the loss. Cory Newman homered for the Salukis.
Friday's series opener was moved up to 12:30 p.m. from the original 2 p.m. start time to avoid bad weather. But the 12:30 p.m. start proved to be about a half hour too late.
With the Salukis trailing 11-5 in the eighth inning, a strong storm blew through Young Memorial Field in Birmingham, Alabama, leaving more than three inches of rain on the field and the protective field tarp in a nearby tree. The game was supended.
The teams completed the game Saturday before the regularly scheduled second game of the series.Â
