Drake Pins 11th Straight Loss On Salukis

The Southern Illinois University Carbondale (8-19, 1-14 in MVC) volleyball team was out hit .260 to .101 and was swept 7-15, 3-15, 15-17 by Drake (7-18, 5-9 in MVC) on Saturday, November 4. The loss was the 11th straight, including 10 straight MVC matches, extending the school record losing streak. The longest previous losing streak was eight, two times in 1999.
The Salukis were led by the strong hitting of Jenny Noel (.333) and Amber Britton (.429). Noel led Southern Illinois with 13 kills, 8 digs and 3 block assists. Megan Baumstark added a double-double performance with 31 assists and 10 digs. Jennifer Cliff chipped in with 9 digs and 2 aces and Kristie Kemner had 5 kills, 8 digs, and 2 aces for the Salukis.
Drake was led by the double-double performances of Briana Kemna (12 kills, 14 digs) and Stacie Kocourek (10 kills, 14 digs) in their 15-7, 15-3, 17-15 win. The Bulldogs trailed 5-1 and 11-5 in game three and held off fiveb game points for the Salukis, before coming back for the victory.
The Salukis are on the road next week against Bradley on Friday, November 10, and Northern Iowa on Saturday, November 11. Southern Illinois will return to Davies Gym on Thursday, November 16, against Evansville at 7 p.m. for the final match of the 2000 volleyball season.
