Stetson Hairston Named MVC Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois sophomore guard Stetson Hairston was named the Missouri Valley Conference "Player of the Week," the league announced Monday.
A sophomore from Fairview Heights, Ill., Hairston averaged 15.5 points in wins over Murray State and Southeast Missouri State last week. He shot 66.7 percent (12-for-18) from the field, 66.7 percent (2-for-3) from 3-point range and 83.3 percent (5-of-6) from the free throw line .
On the week, he also had an 11-2 assist-to-turnover ratio and forced four steals.
Against Murray State, Hairston connected on 5-of-9 field goals, including 2-of-2 from three-point range, and both free throw attempts on the way to 14 points. Hairston held the Racers' leading scorer, Chris Shumate, to 3-of-14 shooting from the field.
At SEMO, Hairston was 7-for-9 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line for 17 points. He also collected eight assists and three steals, limited SEMO's top perimeter player, Derek Winans, to 4-for-14 field goal shooting, including 1-for-7 from three-point range.
It marks the first time in Hairston's career he has earned "Player of the Week" honors.
