Baseball Ranked 74th in RPI

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's baseball team listed 74th in RPI (Ratings Per Index) this past season, ranking better than any team from the Big Ten Conference and all but three teams from the Missouri Valley.
The Salukis, who finished the 2002 campaign with an overall record of 32-24 were 98th (strength of schedule) among 286 NCAA Division I teams ranked in the country.
In 2002, the Salukis posted one of their biggest wins of the year over College World Series participant and then-ranked #4 Notre Dame (56th). SIU also registered at least one win against Wichita State (21st), Southwest Missouri State (30th), Creighton (64th) and Southeast Missouri State (68th). In addition, Wichita State (MVC regular season and tournament champions), SMS and Southeast Missouri State all made NCAA Regional appearances, while Creighton finished second in the Valley.
