Southern Illinois Sweeps Central Michigan

Carbondale, Ill. - The Saluki volleyball team swept Central Michigan in three matches (30-24, 30-28, 30-23) to keep a perfect record (5-0) in their opener in front of a crowd of about 400 in the Saluki/Best Inns Invitational at Davies Gymnasium Friday night.
SIU held the Chippewas to a .041 hitting percentage. Defensively, the Salukis recorded 51 digs and had 10 blocks.
Outside hitter Kristie Kemner (senior, Quincy, Ill., Quincy Notre Dame HS) led the Salukis in kills and digs with 14 and 15, respectively. She also had four block assists and two service aces. Amber Britton (senior, MB Louisville, Ill., North Clay HS) was two for two on attacks. Marissa Washington (freshman, MB, Theodore, Ala., McGill-Toolen Catholic HS) recorded a .308 hitting percentage with six kills and two errors on 13 attacks, and served two aces. Qiana Nelson (senior, OH, Kankakee, Ill., Kankakee HS) added seven kills. Setter Britten Follett (junior, S, Marengo, Ill., Marengo HS) recorded four kills on 11 attacks with no errors for a .364 hitting efficiency. She also had six digs. Erica Miller (sophomore, DS, Middlebury, Ind., Northridge HS) added 10 digs, and Lindsey Schultz (senior, MB, Valparaiso, Ind., Wheeler HS) led the team in blocks with six block assists.
The Salukis will take on Murray State Saturday morning at 11 a.m. SIU will then face UMKC at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
