CARBONDALE, Ill.-- Southern Illinois (0-8) concludes its non-conference schedule when it visits Saint Louis (6-4) on Monday, Dec. 29. Tip off is at 7 p.m. SIU is coming off a nine-day break after having last played against Northwestern (12/20).
Though the Salukis are still searching for their first win of the season, improvement over their eight-game span has been evident. After its last two games against Southern Miss and Northwestern, SIU has lowered its points allowed average from 81.3 to 75.4.
Junior Danette Jones, who has scored double figures in five of eight games this season, continues to lead all Saluki scorers with 10.4 points per game. Senior Katie Berwanger follows close behind with a 10.4 mark. Berwanger, who has posted a team-leading three double-doubles on the year, also leads the Dawgs with 8.8 boards. Additionally, as a team, Southern is scoring just 58.8 points per contest.
Saint Louis, on the other hand, looks to snap a two-game losing streak after suffering losses to Northern Illinois and Vanderbilt. The Billikens are led by senior forward Angie Lewis' 18.8 points per game. She is joined by Stephanie Solomon (11.9 ppg) and Kirsti Holloway (11.8 ppg), who also average double figures.
Despite losing three of its last four to SLU, SIU holds a 9-4 series lead. The Billikens mark the fourth opponent from Conference USA that the Salukis face this season. So far, SIU is 0-3 in those games.
