CARBONDALE, Ill.-- Southern Illinois University head women's basketball coach Lori Opp announced today that India Bruster has signed a national letter of intent to join the Salukis in 2004-05.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Bruster (Brewster) is currently a senior at Cleveland Central Catholic High School, where she was named Most Improved Player in each of her prep seasons. As a junior, she averaged 10 points, eight rebounds, two steals and three blocks per game en route to second-team all-conference honors. She was also named the team's top student-athlete as both a freshman and sophomore.
According to SIU recruiting coordinator and post players' coach Zareth Gray, Bruster (6-4) is expected to bring plenty of size and talent to the Salukis' inside game.
"India is an extremely physical and competitive player," described Gray. "She has an excellent knowledge of the game and knows what it takes to be successful. I found out about her from one of her AAU coaches and liked what I saw immediately."
In addition to Bruster, Opp and her staff look to sign four others, including two guards and two post players.
