ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Saint Louis' Ian Vouyoukas posted a game high 17 points, 12 boards to lead the Billikens past Southern Illinois, 56-42, Wednesday night at the Savvis Center.
The game was tied 4-4 with 16:21 left in the first half when the Billikens went on a 15-2 run to go up by 13. SIU recovered cutting the SLU lead to just four at the half, 23-19.
The Salukis pulled within one to start the second half on three quick fouls from the Billikens as Matt Shaw converted three free throws, but that was as close as SIU came as foul trouble plagued the Salukis.
Southern gave the Billikens 27 chances at the line, including 17 in the second half, nearly double the Salukis' 15.
Jamaal Tatum led the Salukis in scoring with 11 points, adding three assists and three steals before fouling out with just 1:43 left in the game.
Randal Falker pitched in nine points and 10 boards, capturing his fifth foul at 1:27.
Mike Dale and Matt Shaw combined for 14 points, nine rebounds.
The Saluki bench scored just four points, as the Billikens' reserves accounted for 19 of SLU's 56, including 10 from guard Kevin Lisch.
The Salukis shot a frigid 28.3 percent from the field, the third-worst mark in SIU history, converting just 15 of 53 shots.
Southern concludes five straight on the road when the team travels to Wyoming Saturday to face the Cowboys at 3 p.m. CST.
