CARBONDALE, Ill. - Dana Olsen signed a national letter of intent with the Southern Illinois University women's basketball program on Wednesday, the first day of the fall signing period.
Olsen (6-1, Forward) hails from Overland Park, Kan., and enters her senior season at Shawnee Mission South High School as a second-team all-state preseason pick, according to kansaspreps.com. As a junior, she was named first-team all-conference after averaging 17 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals a game.
"We think Dana has the potential to be a great Valley player," said SIU head coach Dana Eikenberg. "She has a warrior-type mentality."
Olsen also helped the Raiders go from 4-16 her freshman year to 13-8 last season.
"Dana has an understanding of the level of commitment and work it takes to get a program back on top," commented Eikenberg. "She came on late her junior year and had a great summer. She can be a complete college player."
Position wise, Olsen adds depth to the four-spot underneath.
"Dana looks to score, is a great passer and has good vision," described Saluki recruiting coordinator Jody Adams. "I believe her best basketball is ahead of her."
