CARBONDALE, Ill. - The 2007-08 Southern Illinois women's basketball team has released its full schedule. The Missouri Valley Conference has announced the dates of all league games and the Salukis' 28-game schedule includes 14 home games, including one to be broadcast on FSN Midwest.
The defending Missouri Valley Conference regular season champions will open conference play at home, hosting Indiana State (Jan. 3) and Illinois State (Jan. 5), following a 10-game non-conference slate.
For the third-straight season, the Salukis will open at home November 10. SIU will play host to DePaul for the season-opener following two exhibition games against Harris Stowe (Nov. 1) and Lambuth (Nov. 4), the 2007 NAIA National Champions.
That matchup is part of a 10-game, non-conference slate which features teams from the Big Ten, Big East, Ohio Valley, Sun Belt, Mid-Continent and Southland conferences.
The most reputable of SIU's non-conference opponents are in-state rivals DePaul and Illinois. The Salukis will face the Fighting Illini on the road on Nov. 18. This will be the first meeting since the 1996-97 season for the in-state rival.
SIU also faces Christian Brothers (Nov. 12), Central Arkansas (Dec. 8), Chicago State (Dec. 17) and Wisconsin-Green Bay (Dec. 29) at home, and Austin Peay (Nov. 28), Tennessee Tech (Dec. 21), Western Kentucky and South Dakota State (Nov. 23-24 at G.W. Tournament) on the road.
Southern Illinois' game against Drake (Jan. 18) will be broadcast on FSN Midwest at 7:30 p.m. which will be "Pack the Dawg House" night with ticket prices being lowered to $1 for the event.
The Salukis will also have the second-annual "Pink Out" for breast cancer awareness on Friday, Feb. 8 at 7:05 p.m. against Missouri State.
The 2008 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament has been moved to a neutral site for the first time in history as the last four tournament hosts have taken the title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo., is the site for this season's tournament, which will be held March 13-16, 2008. All session tickets for the tournament are available until December 1, 2007 for half-price ($20). After that date the all-session pass will be full price ($40). Contact Julie Beck by phone at (618) 453-5153 or by e-mail at jabeck@siu.edu for all-session ticket applications.
