ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Southern Illinois football team had nine All-Conference selections, including two first team honorees, as the Missouri Valley Football Conference announced its All-MVFC teams Monday.
Junior center Bryan Boemer and senior cornerback Korey Lindsey were SIU's two selections to the first team.
Lindsey becomes the fifth Saluki in program history to be named First Team All-Conference three times in a career. Boemer's first team nod follows up his second team selection in 2009.
Four Salukis were named to the second team, three of which were juniors. The lone senior was inside linebacker Stephen Franklin, who led Southern Illinois with 76 tackles this season.
Offensive tackle David Pickard, fullback John Goode and defensive end Chance Coda were the three other second team selections.
Making the honorable mention team was senior kicker Kyle Dougherty, senior wide receiver Joe Allaria and sophomore outside linebacker Jayson DiManche.
Western Illinois swept the league's Player of the Year awards, as Leatherneck quarterback Matt Barr was named the league's Offensive Player of the Year and linebacker Kyle Glazier was voted as the Defensive Player of the Year. This is the first time since 2007 that a pair of teammates share the league's top honors.
Indiana State head coach Trent Miles won the MVFC Coach of the Year award, becoming the first Sycamore coach to claim the honor in the league's 26-year history. ISU was 6-5 and tied for third place in the MVFC this season after entering 2010 having won just two of its past 64 games.
