CARBONDALE, Ill. - The first noticeable progress of the demolition of McAndrew Stadium, the home of the Southern Illinois football team from 1937-2009, is apparent as part of the east-side stands were torn down late Wednesday afternoon.
Demolition crews, headed by primary contractor Fager-McGee Construction Inc. of Murphysboro, began site work at McAndrew on Friday, Dec. 10.
Crews will continue to take down the east side stands before moving to the west side on Monday, Dec. 20. The plot of land will be leveled for future development, although the current track will remain in place until a new one is constructed on campus.
The demolition process is schedule to be completed by March 1.
