PHILDELPHIA, Pa. - Southern Illinois senior cornerback Korey Lindsey was named a Second Team All-American by The Sports Network, who announced their All-America teams on Wednesday.
Lindsey is just the second Saluki in program history to receive All-America honors in three different seasons. The 6-0, 190-pounder out of Baton Rouge, La. garnered first team accolades in 2009 from the AFCA and Associate Press and was a third team selection by The Sports Network as a sophomore in 2008.
Safety Alexis Moreland is the only other Saluki in that category, as he received All-America accolades in the 2002, '03 and '04 seasons.
This is also the third season in a row that Lindsey has made The Sports Network All-America team. As a junior in 2009, he made TSN's second team after being named to its third team the year before.
One of the greatest players to ever wear a Saluki uniform, Lindsey finished his career by starting in 36 consecutive games. The three-time, First-Team All-MVFC selection ranks No. 3 in school history with 14 career interceptions and also ranks in the Top 10 at SIU in passes broken up.
In 2010, Lindsey recorded 41 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, one interception and he tied for fifth in the MVFC with seven pass breakups. He led the Saluki defense that ranked No. 1 in the conference in total defense, allowing just 332.1 yards per game.
On Dec. 15, Lindsey was named to the Associate Press All-America First Team, becoming the third SIU player ever to be named a first team All-American in back-to-back seasons.
