Saluki Athletics posts impressive academic semester

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University Department of Athletics announced another successful semester in the classroom for Saluki student-athletes. The athletic department posted a combined 3.09 GPA for the fall 2013 semester. That is an increase from the 3.06 GPA posted for the fall 2012 semester.
Among the academic highlights from the semester, 60 student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0. In addition, 64 percent of SIU student-athletes recorded a GPA of 3.00 or better for the semester (253 out of 394).
The women's tennis program led the department with a 3.679 term GPA, followed by women's cross country with a 3.650 and softball with a 3.561. In total, 12 of the 16 athletic teams (indoor/outdoor track as one) at SIU recorded a GPA of 3.0 or better for the term.
