Salukis sign two mid-year JUCO transfers to NLIs

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois signed two California Junior College players to National Letters of Intent, head coach Dale Lennon announced on Wednesday. Aaron Stanton (RB, Ventura College) and Andrew McCrea (DB, LA-Pierce CC) will both join the team in the spring semester and have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Andrew McCrea is a two-star defensive back from Pierce College in Los Angeles. He was invited to play in this year's JUCO All-American Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., as a member of the California team after his sophomore season at Pierce in 2014. In two seasons at Pierce, McCrea intercepted three passes and made 24 tackles in 14 career games. In high school, McCrea picked off 10 passes as an upperclassmen and made 81 tackles, three forced fumbles as a junior and senior. He also played wide receiver as a junior, where he caught 10 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown.

Aaron Stanton | RB | 5-8 | 187 | Moorpark, Calif. | Moorpark HS | Ventura College | Highlights
Aaron Stanton rushed for more than 1,500 yards in his two years at Ventura College and averaged 5.2 yards per carry. He scored 18 touchdowns and was named the SCFA Northern Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2014. Stanton also caught 78 passes for 662 yards at Ventura, and he averaged at least 29 yards per kick return in each season. He was a two-time All-Conference player and earned All-Conference honors as an all-purpose back, running back and return specialist as a freshman in 2013.
