
Chinn, Davis named Freshmen All-Americans

Southern Illinois freshmen Jeremy Chinn and D.J. Davis were named to the 2016 FCS Freshman All-American team by HERO Sports, the organization announced Wednesday. Chinn was a First Team selection and Davis was honorable mention.Â
Chinn, a true freshman safety, played in eight games after returning from an injury. He was second on the team in tackles per game and third in the MVFC among freshmen. He led all MVFC freshmen in interceptions per game. He was named MVFC Newcomer of the Week after seven tackles and an interception in a win over South Dakota.Â
Davis, a true freshman return specialist and running back, led the MVFC in kick return average by 2.5 yards per return. He was named to the MVFC All-Newcomer team and was an honorable mention All-MVFCÂ selection. He ranked fifth in the MVFCÂ in all-purpose yars per game in 2016 and his 98-yard kick return touchdown vs. Murray State was the second-longest in school history. He ranked 11th nationally in kick return yards and was third in SIU single-season history in kick return yards.
