
Saluki Kickoff 5K set for September 10

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Saluki Athletics, in association with The Southern Illinoisan and Run to Remember 9/11, will host the sixth annual Saluki Kickoff 5K on Saturday, September 10, 2016. Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m. and the race begins at 8:30 a.m. In the evening, Saluki Football hosts Southeast Missouri in Nick Hill's home debut and the Hometown Heroes Game, which honors the sacrifices and dedication of our local first responders, at 6 p.m. in Saluki Stadium.Â

The Saluki Kickoff 5K will give participants a scenic run around the SIU campus with a chance to take in views of Saluki Athletics facilities, as well as Campus Lake and other natural features on campus. The race ends in Saluki Stadium, where runners can watch themselves on the video board as they cross the finish line. Proceeds from this year's race benefit the SIU Department of Public Safety's K9 fundraiser. The race will feature an oversized American flag hung from the Carbondale Fire Department truck.Â

Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., with the race set to start at 8:30 a.m. Runners can register prior to the event by printing off the attached registration form and sending it to Saluki Athletics. Race Day registration will close at 8:15 a.m. to allow for chip timing crew adjustments. Registration fees for the event are as follows:
