Jacob Marnin named the recipient of Chancellor Carlo Montemagno Excellence Scholarship
12/20/2019 | 8:27:00 | Football
A criminology and criminal justice major with a perfect 4.0 GPA as both an undergraduate and grad student, Marnin was recently named a Division I First-Team Academic All-American. Also a 2018 first-team selection, Marnin is the first player in program history to earn multiple first-team honors. Marnin is the 100th player in Saluki Athletics history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American status  — a total that leads the conference and is proudly displayed above the scoreboard at Saluki Stadium. The football program alone has produced 10 Academic All-Americans in the last 10 years.
Dr. Montemagno was a visionary with over three decades of experience in shepherding complex organizations both inside and outside academia. He supported the vision that the fields of science technology and medicine should not define the universe of collaborative engagement and believed that societal and artistic advancement played a central role in establishing a culture of inquiry that defines a great research university. He joined SIU as its 20th chancellor in August 2017. He created a roadmap to secure the university's future; earned the respect and commitment of faculty staff students alumni and community members; and was an unwavering proponent of the university's mission.Â
