CARBONDALE, Ill. — Saluki Athletics announced its 2019 football schedule on Thursday along with a reduction in season-ticket pricing. Current season-ticket holders will see the new pricing on their renewal letter, and prospective buyers now have an option to Pre-Order season tickets.
Southern Illinois will again play five home dates, beginning with the home opener versus UT Martin on Sept. 14, a game that highlights the campus' Family Weekend festivities. SIU's home conference opponents are Illinois State (Oct. 12), Youngstown State (Oct. 19 — Homecoming), Missouri State (Nov. 9) and defending national champion North Dakota State (Nov. 23).
The Salukis' non-conference road slate begins at SEMO (Aug. 29) and features two games at FBS opponents — UMass (Sept. 7) and Arkansas State (Sept. 21). The MVFC road schedule includes South Dakota State (Oct. 5), South Dakota (Oct. 26), Indiana State (Nov. 2) and Western Illinois (Nov. 16).
The Salukis return 16 starters from last year's team, including 10 starters on a defense that features All-Conference players in safety Jeremy Chinn and defensive end Anthony Knighton, plus leading tackler Bryce Notree. All-Conference running back D.J. Davis headlines the list of returnees for an offense that also returns top receiving threats in wideout Landon Lenoir and tight end Nigel Kilby.
"My energy and enthusiasm for Saluki Football has never been higher, and the pieces are in place for us to have an outstanding season," said SIU head coach Nick Hill. "With two FBS road games and three games against FCS Playoff teams, we recognize both the challenge and the opportunity that lies ahead of us in 2019."
Season-ticket holders will reap added value this season, thanks to price cuts across the board. Sideline tickets are marked down from $105 to $90, while end-zone seats are cut from $85 to $75. The Family 5-Pack (5 tickets for $250) has also been expanded to include more end-zone sections.
"After the season ended, we looked at our pricing and felt it was time to make our tickets more affordable for the hard-working people of Southern Illinois," said Athletic Director Jerry Kill, who already lowered prices on beer and other concessions at SIU games this year. "We're going to look at lowering the prices on concessions even more next year. We feel we offer a tremendous product and an outstanding value to our fans, and we can't wait to see everyone at the games next fall."
There are numerous added benefits to season-ticket membership, such as access to the best available seating, significant savings off the price of single-game tickets, exclusive opportunities to meet players and coaches, and more.
For the first time, prospective season-ticket holders can express their interest by pre-ordering season tickets at SIUSalukis.com. After current season-ticket holders complete the renewal process, pre-order customers will be contacted to select their seats.
