ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois men's basketball players Marcus Bartley and Aaron Cook were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Teams, the league announced Thursday. Bartley was a first-team selection, and Cook was a second-team selection. Both players earned the honor for the second-straight year.
Bartley, a third-team Academic All-American in 2018, is a two-time Academic All-District selection. He graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA in May 2018 and also holds a perfect 4.0 GPA in his M.B.A. program. One of the top off-the-bench playmakers in the league, Bartley has shot 38 percent from the 3-point line and is second on the team with 76 assists.Â
Cook, a junior guard from St. Louis, is double-majoring in sports administration and physical therapy assistant, and he holds a 3.29 cumulative GPA. Cook finished his junior year ranked third in the MVC in assists, fifth in steals and sixth in minutes played. In MVC games, he was even better, ranking second in assists and fourth in steals.Â
No. 3-seeded Southern Illinois faces No. 6-seed Northern Iowa at 8:30 p.m. on Friday night at the Enterprise Center in the quarterfinal round of the MVC Tournament.Â
