Kyle Macy Release | Joe B. Hall Release
BOSTON, Mass. - SIU freshman forward Marcus Domask was named a Kyle Macy Freshman All-American, the organization announced Thursday. Domask was one of 31 freshman in NCAA Division I to earn the honor. Additionally, head coach Bryan Mullins was a finalist for the Joe B. Hall award, which is given to the top first-year head coach in the nation. Both awards are presented by College Insider.Â
A Waupun, Wis., native, Domask earned second-team All-MVC honors and was named the league's Freshman and Newcomer of the Year. Domask averaged 13.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in his freshmen campaign, He shot 47% from the field, 40% from the 3-point line, and 83% from the free throw line. Domask led all MVC freshmen in scoring and assists, and he ranked second in rebounds and third in steals. He scored in double-figures 22 times, including five 20+ point games, and had two double-doubles.Â
Domask was one of only four freshmen in the nation to average at least 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 2019-20, joining Anthony Edwards (Georgia), Cole Anthony (North Carolina), and Alex Morales (Wagner).Â
Mullins, an SIU alumnus, guided the Salukis to 16 wins and 10 MVC wins. The Salukis were picked last in the MVC preseason poll and had 10 new players, but Mullins guided the Salukis to 10 league wins, the most ever by an MVC team that was picked last in its preseason poll (since 1986). The Salukis had winning streaks of 10-straight home games and seven-straight MVC games, both of which were the longest for the program since 2006-07. Under Mullins, SIU outperformed the preseason expectations of ESPN's BPI, KenPom, Sagarin, Norlander, and Sports Illustrated.Â
Indiana State's Jake LaRavia joined Domask as freshmen who earned the honor from the Missouri Valley Conference. Georgia's Anthony Edwards was the recipient of the 2020 Kyle Macy Award, presented annually to the nation's top freshman.
