The Southern Illinois University Men's Swimming & Diving Program announced today that they have signed Tomas Peciar, the #34 recruit in the world for the Class of 2023 per SwimCloud's latest rankings.Â
Peciar, a native of Nitra, Slovakia, will be a huge addition to a program that's been on the rise. At the 2022 MAC Championships, the Salukis made program history by finishing in 2nd place for the first time since joining the MAC as an affiliate in 2010. SIU won more events than any other team and broke multiple conference records in the process. The Salukis look to continue to build on this success and contend for team championships in the future, and Peciar brings them one step closer to that goal. Â
Primarily a freestyle and butterfly specialist, Peciar shows great range that could help provide depth in a number of events for the Salukis. Some of his personal bests would already contend for the top spots at the MAC Championship meet. Listed below are Peciar's top times converted to SCY:
50 Freestyle – 20.41
100 Freestyle – 44.70
200 Freestyle – 1:38.51
500 Freestyle – 4:20.86
1650 Freestyle – 15:45.12
100 Butterfly – 48.86
200 Butterfly – 1:46.99
"Tomas adds some depth in some really key areas for us, as well as giving us some great relay options. He will make an immediate impact both athletically and academically on the men's team. We are excited to welcome him to campus in the fall," SIU Head Coach Geoff Hanson stated.Â
Peciar is slated to join the team in the Fall of 2023 and would make an immediate impact.
