Women's Basketball to Host Senior Day Saturday

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team is set to host the Evansville Purple Aces on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Banterra Center for Senior Day. Six seniors will be honored as Abby Brockmeyer, Makenzie Silvey, Gabby Walker, Caitlin Link, Payton McCallister and Awa Keita will have their final home game as Salukis.
The Salukis (18-7, 13-2) enter Saturday leading the Missouri Valley Conference, sitting one game ahead of Missouri State and two games ahead of Illinois State. Southern has not won a regular season Valley championship since the 2006-07 season.
Southern is coming off a 63-46 victory over Indiana State on Thursday night. Silvey led Southern in scoring with 21 points of 50% shooting from the field. Abby Brockmeyer also scored in double figures for the Salukis, scoring 17 points and adding nine rebounds and a career-high six steals. Southern's stout defense held Indiana State to 17 points below their season average, and no Sycamore scored more than nine points in the contest.
Abby Brockmeyer is the reigning MVC Player of the Week, having received the honor on Monday. Both Brockmeyer and Makenzie Silvey have earned Player of the Week honors twice this season.
