Dallas Tx. … SIU scored just its second ever win at Dallas Baptist and beat the #23 Patriots for the third consecutive time in two seasons Friday when the Salukis rallied from an early 4-1 deficit to win 7-6. The win gave SIU (27-10, 5-2) sole possession of second place in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Patriots (23-14, 5-3) lost for the fourth time in five tries and fell into a three-way tie for third place.
Ryan Rodriguez delivered the game's decisive run. He doubled in Nick Hagedorn, who had tripled, with two outs in the top of the 8th inning breaking a 6-6 tie. Rodriguez, whose won two games in walk-off fashion for the Salukis' this season, delivered the game winning run immediately after the Patriots threw out SIU's Evan Martin at home plate trying to score on Hagedorn's bloop triple.
Rodriguez' hit made a winner of Saluki reliever Matthew Steidl (3-2). He pitched 5 innings of three hit, one run relief in which he struck out a career-high eight batters.
SIU executed it's first and third delayed double steal play twice in Friday's game. The first time came in the first inning as J.T. Weber stole home to give SIU a 1-0 lead. The second successful execution of the play came in the fifth inning when Nathan Bandy stole home to give SIU a 6-4 lead. In all, SIU stole six bases in the game.
DBU erased SIU's 1-0 lead with four in the second inning. Three scored on Miguel Santos' three run triple. The fourth scored on Blayne Jones' double.
SIU regained the lead, 5-4, in the fourth inning. Evan Martin started the scoring with an RBI double. Kaeber Rog capped the scoring with a three run opposite field double after the Patriots intentionally walked Weber loading the bases.
The Patriots tied the game at six against relievers Ben Riffe and Steidl on Luke Heefner's two-run double in the fifth inning.
Rodriguez' game winning eight inning double was the only run scored by either team in the final four innings.
SIU has won five of it last six games and will pitch Noah Farmer (3-1, 3.26) versus Ryan Johnson (3-0, 3.16) and the Patriots in a 2 pm. (CT) game Saturday.
