CARBONDALE, Ill. — Saluki running back Javon Williams Jr. — a generational talent and native son of Southern Illinois — announced that he will enter the 2023 NFL Draft, ending his career at SIU after five seasons.
The Centralia native arrived on campus in 2018 and played 49-career games for Southern as a multi-purpose running back, receiver, Wildcat quarterback and return specialist. He had a career unlike any other in program history, accounting for 50 touchdowns as a rusher, receiver and passer.
Williams Jr. helped the program return to the national stage, making back-to-back playoff appearances in 2020 and 2021, and winning a pair of playoff games. He earned multiple All-American and All-Conference awards.
