PEORIA, Ill. – Southern Illinois baseball dominated its series finale on the road at Bradley Sunday afternoon, run-ruling the Braves 16-4 in seven innings to claim the series win -- the first series win on the road at Bradley since 2013.
Southern (15-13, 5-1 MVC) picked up two runs before Bradley was able to record an out as Pier-Olivier Boucher belted the first of two home runs of the day to put the Salukis on top 2-0. The Saluki offense didn't slow down, scoring in each of the next four innings, including a nine-run fifth to put the game away once and for all.
On the flip side, Southern got another strong performance on the mound from left-hander Tanner Lewis who pitched five scoreless innings in the win. The Las Vegas native struck out four Bradley hitters and allowed just two base hits as he improved to 2-1 on the year.
All nine Saluki starters scored a run with Boucher leading the charge with a 3-for-6 day at the plate, including two home runs and a team-best five RBIs. Mathieu Valle was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Six Salukis in total had multiple hits.
SIU tallied six of their season-high 18 hits in the nine-run fifth inning. Bradley pitchers faced 15 Saluki hitters in the inning as SIU was able to capitalize on two walks and a pair of BU errors.
With two runners on, Boucher sent his second home run of the game out of Dozer Park to extend the SIU lead to 11-0. Southern would go on to get back-to-back singles before Cole Christman was hit-by-pitch to load the bases. Matt Schark and Ryan Rodriguez would pick up key base hits to make it 16-0 before Bradley was able to get out of the inning.
Jack Flack took the loss for the Braves after surrendering three runs in the first inning. SIU took advantage of six walks and two hit batters to claim the series win.
