CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois men's basketball coach Bryan Mullins announced today that the program has signed 6-foot-8 transfer forward Jarrett Hensley. The Merriam, Kansas native has two years of eligibility remaining with the Salukis.
"We are excited to have Jarrett and his family join our program. Jarrett comes from a great program and understands what it takes to win at a high level," Mullins said. "He is tough and competitive and wants to win championships here. He is a versatile player who can guard and play multiple positions on the court. I am excited for him to show Saluki nation what he can do this next year."
Hensley spent the last two seasons at Cincinnati where he was a part of 41 wins for the Bearcats under head coach Wes Miller. Over his two seasons, he appeared in 56 games at UC, averaging 1.8 points and 1.1 rebounds over 7.7 minutes per game.
Last season, Hensley scored 11 points against Eastern Kentucky and added 10 versus Bryant to go with a career-high four assists. He pulled down season-high four boards against Cleveland State in the second game of the year.
During his sophomore season, Hensley played in all 33 games as a reserve, averaging 1.5 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 7.6 minutes per contest, and gave the Bearcats a unique defensive matchup based on his size, particularly in the three games against top-15 Houston.
Hensley spent his freshman season at UNCG where he saw action in 28 games and averaged 1.9 points per game. He scored a career-best 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting in a road win at Chattanooga and delivered five points in the SoCon semifinals against ETSU.
Hensley was named to the 2020 Rivals Top 150 Prospect Ranking coming in at #144. At Link Year Prep, he averaged 14.7 points and five rebounds per game. Before his time at Link Year Prep where he was a first-team all-conference selection during a senior campaign in which he averaged 21 points, eight rebounds, and four assists per contest.
