Salukis Knock Off Southern Indiana in Seven Innings, 14-3

The Salukis (25-20) compiled 14 runs and 15 hits, with six players reaching base multiple times. Kaeber Rog, Steven Loden, and Jack Rigoni each had three hits, while Ryan Rodriguez, Bennett Eltoft, and Loden each knocked in three RBIs.
Southern Indiana (15-29) jumped out to an early 2-1 lead, but Loden tied the game up in the bottom of the second with a solo home run, his fourteenth of the season. Loden is currently tied for second in the Missouri Valley Conference in home runs.
Later in the inning, Rog put the Salukis ahead with a two-out RBI single. Rodriguez, Eltoft, and Loden then added six runs on two-out singles of their own. SIU had batted around and led by six after two innings of play.
Zach Jansen and Eltoft each blasted two-run home runs in the bottom of the third that put SIU up by 10 after three, giving the Salukis a chance to end things early.
The Salukis took an 11-run lead into the seventh, and Saluki reliever Jake Kuntzendorf went 1-2-3 to secure the mercy rule victory.
Tanner Perry (2-2) was credited with his second win of the season in a scheduled staff start. He allowed two earned runs, three hits, and struck out five. Ben Riffe and Kuntzendorf pitched the final two innings and did not allow a baserunner.
Gavin Seebold (2-3) took the loss for the Screamin' Eagles after allowing six earned runs in an inning and two-thirds. Evan Kahre and Lucas McNew led USI with two hits apiece in the loss.
UP NEXT
Southern is set for a three-game series this weekend on the road at Valparaiso beginning Friday.
