CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University women's basketball head coach Kelly Bond-White has released the non-conference portion of the 2023-24 schedule ahead of the new season.
"We schedule in November and December to prepare us for a tough Missouri Valley Conference slate," Bond-White said. "Our goal was to find diversity in style of play, that would give our young core different looks. We believe we've achieved that and I'm excited to get going with this group."
The Salukis will play a private scrimmage, followed by an exhibition against Greenville University on Wednesday, Nov. 1, taking place at the Banterra Center.
Six of the Salukis' 10 non-conference games will take place in Carbondale, starting with the regular season opener on Nov. 7 against Southeast Missouri State (SEMO).
Southern Illinois will then host three more contests throughout the month of November, with Cornell coming to town on Nov. 11, Purdue Fort Wayne on Nov. 15, and North Texas on Nov. 19.
During Thanksgiving break, the Salukis will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the San Juan Shootout. The first game for SIU will be against Charlotte on Nov. 23, followed by a matchup against West Virginia on Nov. 24. Southern will conclude its trip to Puerto Rico on Nov. 25 with a game against George Washington.
"With six out of 10 games being at home, I wanted to find a tourney that would continue to challenge us, but also provide our players, parents, and fans a unique experience in a beautiful setting," Bond-White said. "We are facing three traditionally strong programs that will be fun for our fans to watch. I'm excited for those that have already chosen to join us and hope more jump on the trip."
To start off the month of December, the Salukis will play two more games at home, starting on Dec. 6 against SIUE in the Elementary School Game. The last home game SIU will play in its non-conference schedule will be on Dec. 9 against Saint Louis.
On Dec. 17, Southern concludes its non-conference schedule with a trip to Stillwater, Okla., to take on Oklahoma State.
"We are looking once again to pack the house for our Elementary school game versus SIUE," Bond-White said. "I believe it is a fun experience for both teams as those kids just want to scream and holler. They may enjoy Coach Rich (Jones) DJing more than the actual game. It's a great gift to our players in return for the reading programs we will share with the visiting schools."
Info regarding the conference schedule will be released when it becomes available.
Fans will also have the opportunity to meet the team on Sunday, Oct. 1, at the 2023-24 Tip-Off Celebration. For more details, click here.
