Recap | Saluki Volleyball season closes with 3-1 loss at Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Southern Illinois Women's Volleyball closed its regular season with a 3-1 loss to Missouri State Wednesday in Springfield. The Salukis finished 3-15 in Missouri Valley Conference play and will not qualify for the 2024 MVC Volleyball Championship.
After going down 1-0, the Salukis tied the match up with a hard-fought win in set two. The Bears (12-18, 6-12 MVC) then dominated set three and won the match in four sets.
Annabelle Sulish led the Salukis with 11 kills and Ema Stermenska tallied 19 assists. Cecilia Bulmahn's 30 digs and Eva Krakowski's 6 blocks led the way defensively.
Missouri State took a 20-12 lead in set one, and while the Salukis played better down the stretch of the set, they could not overcome the advantage and dropped set one by a score of 25-20.
Southern led wire-to-wire in set two, with a block from Kelly Franklin and Maggie Wallenberger tallying the final point and evening the match at one set apiece.
The Bears stormed to a quick 6-1 lead in set three and never let the Salukis back within three as they took the set 25-10.
Down by 21-14 in set four, the Salukis scored four straight points anchored by two aces from Sulish, but Missouri State held on and took set four 25-20 to clinch the match.
