
Recap | Women’s Basketball’s Season Comes to an End in 88-48 First Round Loss against Illinois State

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (4-26 overall, 2-18 conference) suffered an 88-48 loss to No. 5 Illinois State in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament on Thursday.
Southern was held back by a slow start, as it was out-scored, 47-19, in the first half. The offensive struggles continued into the second half, scoring just 15 points in the third and 14 in the fourth.
As a team, SIU shot 33% from the field and 39% from three-point range in the loss. It also had 24 turnovers and forced 13.
The Salukis were out-rebounded, 34-27, and allowed 44 points in the paint while having 12 of their own.
Illinois State scored at least 20 points in each of the four quarters.
Junior Gift Uchenna had a program record 21st double-double against the Redbirds, tallying 16 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Kayla Cooper was second on the team in scoring with nine points.
In her final game as a Saluki, senior Tyranny Brown scored eight points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 shooting from deep.
The Salukis finish the season 4-26 overall and 2-18 in conference play.
