Recap | Salukis Fall to Indiana State on the Road, 95-77, in Regular Season Finale

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Southern Illinois basketball fell on the road to Indiana State, 95-77, in the final game of the regular season Sunday afternoon. The Salukis finished the regular season 13-18 overall and 8-12 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
SIU will be the No. 8 seed and play a rematch against No. 9-seed Indiana State at Arch Madness in St. Louis at 12 p.m. on Thursday. The winner will play No. 1-seed Drake at noon on Friday.
Four Salukis scored in double-figures led by Kennard Davis Jr. who put in 19 points to go along with two assists. Davion Sykes scored 12 for the Salukis, including 10 in the first half. Drew Steffe (12) and Ali Dibba (11) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Dawgs.
Indiana State shot 64.5 percent (20-31) from the field and knocked down six 3-pointers in the first half of action. ISU jumped out to an eight-point lead early and never looked back as they went into the locker room in front 52-31.
Saluki forward Jarrett Hensley picked up two early fouls and was forced to the bench for much of the opening period. Down a big, the Trees would attack the paint and finish with a 26-16 advantage at the basket.
SIU was held to just 11 field goals in the first 20 minutes with Davis (12) and Sykes (10) combining for 22 of SIU's 31 points.
Southern was outrebounded in the game 41-29, with ISU scoring 12 points on second chances opportunities while SIU turned seven offensive boards into just four points.
Indiana State finished the game with 12 3-pointers while SIU hit just five in the game. The Salukis struggles from the charity stripe, shooting 18-for-33 in the game.
Southern Illinois would finish the game 45 percent (27-60) from the floor and 28.8 percent (5-18) from behind the arc while ISU finished shooting 59 percent from the floor and 41 percent from deep.
Samage Teel led the Sycamores with 20 points while Camp Wagner and Aaron Gray has 18 each for the Trees.
