The Salukis (28-12) erased an early 3-0 SEMO lead, using an 18-hit attack to dominate the middle innings. Lemm paced the potent SIU offense, finishing 3-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, and an RBI, while scoring three runs. Gabe Petrucelli drove in three runs and Cecil Lofton added two RBIs on a critical double, providing a spark as Southern Illinois took control.
Trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning, SIU erupted for five runs on six hits. Petrucelli singled home two runs to jumpstart the rally, and Lofton followed with a two-run double to right-center to give the Salukis their first lead of the game. Michael Mylott capped the inning with an RBI single, pushing the lead to 5-3.
SIU continued the offensive barrage with three more runs in the sixth. Lemm ripped an RBI triple to right-center, scoring Jordan Bach, and then Tate Lewis drove in Lemm with a double. Petrucelli added another RBI with a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 8-3.
Mylott launched his fifth home run of the season in the seventh, part of a two-run inning, while Bach doubled home another. SIU added insurance runs in both the eighth and ninth innings, highlighted by pinch-hitter Mason Schwalbach's RBI single.
Jackson Payne (2-0) earned the win in relief, tossing a perfect fifth inning with two strikeouts. The Salukis used eight pitchers on the evening, with Matt Irvine, Dylan Petrey, and Payne providing critical scoreless innings from the bullpen.
SEMO (23-18) struck first with two runs in the opening inning on RBI hits by Bryce Cannon and Ty Stauss, and added a run in the fourth. Cole Warehime led the Redhawks offensively with a two-run home run in the seventh and finished with three RBIs.
Left-hander Al Holguin made the start for the Salukis and surrendered three runs over 3.1 innings of work.
Mason Pennington (0-1) took the loss for SEMO, surrendering five runs on eight hits in 1.2 innings of relief.
SIU's season-high 18-hit night featured multi-hit performances from Tim Simay (3-for-6, double), Lofton (2-for-4), Mylott (3-for-4), and Petrucelli (2-for-4), showcasing the depth of the Saluki lineup.
SEMO was paced offensively by Cole Warehime, who finished 2-for-5, highlighted by a two-run home run and totaled three RBIs. On the mound, starting pitcher Eddie White provided the Redhawks' most effective performance, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just two hits.
