Recap | Salukis Score Three Times in Final 15 Minutes to Come Back, Beat IU-Indy
08/24/2025 | 3:25:00 | Women's Soccer
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois soccer (3-0-0, 0-0-0) spent Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis taking on the Jaguars of IU-Indy (0-3-0, 0-0-0). Despite being down a goal 75 minutes into the game, the Salukis scored three times in the final 15 minutes to come away with a 3-1 win and stay undefeated this season.
"I'm really happy with the response and the final score," says head coach Graeme Orr. "As a coach, I got the approach wrong in the first period, but credit to the players—they responded brilliantly in the second. We worked extremely hard, added some much-needed composure, and that gave us the momentum to finish strong and get the win on the road."

How It Happened
First Half
Both offenses got off to a sluggish start, with the first shot-on-goal not coming until 34:58 into the match when an IU-Indy shot was saved by Murray. However, IU-Indy converted on their next opportunity, taking a 1-0 lead.
Both teams generated a shot-on-goal in the final 10 minutes of the half, but neither found the back of the net, meaning the Jaguars took their 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Second Half
The second half started quietly, with the first shot-on-goal coming 67:47 into the game when Warner had a shot saved. The Jaguars put one on goal a minute later, but Murray stood tall.
Southern finally broke through and tied the game just over 75 minutes into the match when Warner converted on shot with Betancourt assisting the score. Just five minutes later, Betancourt scored a goal of her own, giving SIU a 2-1 lead. Finally, Knorr added an insurance-marker with less than three minutes of time remaining to put Southern up 3-1, which is what the scoreboard read when the clock hit zero.
