CARBONDALE, Ill. - After falling behind quickly, the Salukis were unable to regain their footing in a 13-1 loss to Murray State Friday night at Itchy Jones Stadium.
The Racers became the first team to truly get to Saluki Friday starter Andrew Evans, as a grand slam from Kainen Jorge gave his team a quick 5-0 lead in the second. Evans was relieved after three innings pitched with five earned runs on five hits, three walks and one hit-by-pitch.
The Salukis loaded the bases in the second with one away, but could not scratch a run across as Murray State's Nic Schutte worked out of a jam.
Kyle Mager brought in the lone Saluki run with an RBI single in the third.
As his team's offense continued to add on runs, Schutte cruised along and pitched the entire seven-inning affair, ending after his team scored their 13th run in what would be the final frame.
Jorge finished with five RBIs, while second baseman Luke Mistone added three for the Racers.
Evans (L, 5-2) took his second loss of the season.
