ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Southern Illinois baseball trailed early and eventually fell 12-2 in seven innings Tuesday night at Lindenwood.

The Lions sprinted out to a 4-0 lead after two and never looked back.

Leadoff man Kristian Sprawling just missed a homer in the third, hitting the top of the wall and driving in the Dawgs' first run on an eventual triple.

Lindenwood added two more in the bottom of the third before Jacob McKenzie hit an opposite-field solo homer in the fifth, his third of the season and first since returning from injury.

The pitching struggles continued for SIU, and the offense could not cash in a bases-loaded opportunity in the seventh, where the Lions ended the game after reaching a 10-run lead.

Ryan Halamicek (L, 0-1) was tagged with the loss for Southern.

UP NEXT
The Salukis have an opportunity to regain their footing with a weekend set against conference foe Indiana State beginning Friday, May 1, at Itchy Jones Stadium.
