CARBONDALE, Ill. — On Tuesday, Southern Illinois women's basketball and head coach Kelly Bond-White announced the signing of 5-foot-11 junior guard Braxcynn Baker, a dynamic scorer and elite perimeter threat transferring from back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference champions Murray State.
"Braxcynn is a high-level scorer with a natural feel for the game," says Coach Bond-White. "She has the ability to stretch the floor, create off the bounce, and make plays in traffic. What excites us most is her work ethic and her competitiveness — she's been part of winning and understands what it takes. Braxcynn fits exactly what we're building: tough, skilled, and hungry. We're excited to get her here and continue to develop her game while helping her reach her full potential."

Baker brings a proven scoring pedigree and the ability to impact the game at all three levels. A smooth, agile guard, she excels at creating her own shot, knocking down perimeter jumpers, and attacking off the bounce. Her ability to move without the ball and exploit mismatches makes her a constant offensive threat.
In addition to her offensive skillset, Baker's length and defensive awareness allow her to generate deflections and disrupt opposing offenses, giving her the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor.
A standout at Lowell High School, Baker earned multiple All-State honors throughout her career, including Detroit Free Press First Team All-State recognition as a junior and Dream Team honors as a senior. She averaged 25 points-per-game in her final season, highlighted by eight 30-point performances while leading her team to a district championship.
During the 2024-25 season, Baker appeared in 32 games and shot 38 percent from three-point range, showing efficiency and consistency from beyond the arc. She recorded a career-high 18 points against Evansville.
She also showcased her ability to produce when given the opportunity, delivering a complete performance with 17 points, six rebounds, two steals, and two assists against Indiana State during the 2025-26 season.
Off the court, Baker has excelled academically, maintaining a 3.8 GPA. While at SIU she will be pursuing Journalism with a minor in Advertising.
