"She brings a toughness and competitiveness that fits exactly what we want our program to be," says Coach Bond-White. "Yaiza can impact the game in so many ways, whether that's rebounding, stretching the floor, or creating mismatches. Defensively, her IQ, communication, and ability to adjust really stood out on film. She understands passing lanes, plays with active hands, and impacts winning on both ends of the floor. We're excited about the experience and versatility she will bring to our team and look forward to seeing her continue to grow at SIU."
A versatile and physical forward, Paredes Diaz averaged 12.3 points-per-game, 6.3 rebounds-per-game, and 2.2 steals-per-game last season while leading Eastern Wyoming College in steals. She recorded a season-high 22 points against Northwest College and pulled down 13 rebounds against Central Wyoming College.
Paredes Diaz brings size, toughness, and positional versatility to the Saluki frontcourt. Her ability to stretch the floor from three-point range, rebound, defend multiple positions, and create mismatches offensively will be a huge asset to the saluki roster.
Paredes Diaz enters SIU as an academic high achiever while planning to major in Civil Engineering.
