Evans Selected by Diamondbacks in 2026 MLB Draft

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Day two of the 2026 MLB Draft is currently underway and in round 15, Southern Illinois' Andrew Evans was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with pick 446.
Evans, a right-handed pitcher, is coming off a dominant 2026 season for the Salukis. The redshirt junior posted a 7-2 record in 16 starts for SIU this spring and led the pitching staff in ERA (2.51), WHIP (1.16), innings pitched (89.2), and strikeouts (99) while throwing Southern's only complete game and solo shutout of the season.
A native of Olathe, Kansas, Evans transferred into SIU this season from Kansas State and built an impressive resume of accolades by season's end. In addition to being named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year, Evans was also a ABCA/Rawlings Second-Team All-Region member, MVC All-Tournament Team honoree, MVC Scholar Athlete, and one-time MVC Pitcher of the Week.
Evans is the first Saluki to be drafted to the majors since Aidan Foeller was selected in the 11th round of the 2024 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Additionally, Evans is the third Saluki to be picked by Arizona following Jeff Stanek in 2002 and Justin Kees in 1998.
