SIU Athletics Celebrates Historic Fundraising

CARBONDALE, Ill. – SIU Athletics achieved the most successful fundraising year in department history during Fiscal Year 2026, generating nearly $10.4 million in gifts and commitments while setting multiple records that underscore the growing momentum behind the Saluki brand.
The record-setting year builds on a period of sustained growth for SIU Athletics fundraising efforts. FY25 saw an 87 percent increase over FY24, and over the past two fundraising cycles, giving to SIU Athletics has grown by an astounding 526 percent compared to FY24 levels.
Fueled by unprecedented support from alumni, donors, and friends of the university, SIU Athletics recorded its highest single-year total for pledges and gifts committed. Overall commitments increased 233 percent compared to the previous year, while cash gifts rose 42 percent year over year.
"This historic year reflects the confidence our donors have in the direction of SIU Athletics and their belief in the student-athletes, coaches and programs that represent Southern Illinois so well," said SIU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Leonard. "None of this is possible without the incredible effort of Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development Kat Martin. She is a dynamo who builds meaningful relationships and works tirelessly for our department."
The nearly $10.4 million raised in FY26 will support initiatives across the department, including student-athlete scholarships, competitive excellence, facility enhancements and other strategic priorities that strengthen the experience for current and future Salukis.
The record-breaking fundraising performance demonstrates the growing engagement of the SIU Athletics community and the impact of investments made by donors who recognize the value of supporting student-athletes both in competition and in the classroom.
"Our supporters continue to step forward in remarkable ways," Leonard said. "These results are a testament to what can be accomplished when alumni, fans and donors rally around a shared vision for the future of Saluki Athletics."
Supporters of Southern Illinois University Carbondale contributed a record-breaking $54 million during FY26, a 40 percent increase over the previous year and the most successful fundraising year in SIU Foundation history.
