Southern Illinois Swimming & Diving Welcomes Braden Tiffany to Coaching Staff

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois swimming and diving hired Braden Tiffany as an assistant coach on Thursday.
Tiffany joins the Salukis after spending four seasons as an assistant coach with Utah Valley Aquatics, a USA Swimming club team in Utah. During his time with the program, he coached five state champions and two swimmers who ranked among the top 20 nationally in their age group as 12-and-unders. He also worked with athletes who qualified for USA Swimming Junior Nationals, including a Junior National finalist.
Before joining Utah Valley Aquatics, Tiffany spent four seasons as head coach at Timpview High School in Provo, Utah. During his tenure, he coached four individual state champions, 26 state finalists and two high school All-Americans. His athletes broke eight school records and one 5A state record, while two Timpview athletes earned 5A Swimmer of the Year honors. Tiffany was also named the 2025-26 Utah 5A Coach of the Year.
A native of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Tiffany earned his bachelor's degree in statistics from Brigham Young University and his master's degree in sport coaching from West Virginia University. He resides in Carbondale with his wife, Kathrin, and their daughter, Anya.
Southern Illinois head coach Geoff Hanson expressed his excitement about welcoming Tiffany and his family to the Saluki program.
"We are very excited to welcome Braden and his family to the Saluki Swimming & Diving Family! Through the search process, Braden stood out as one of the sharpest up and coming coaches out there. Everyone I spoke with who knows him talked about what a great asset he would be to any college program, and we're very happy he chose to become a DAWG!"
Tamber McAllister, head coach of BYU swimming and diving, praised Tiffany's leadership and ability to develop athletes.
"I've had the opportunity to watch Braden develop talent and build a strong team culture at Timpview High School. The success of his program reflects his leadership, vision, and genuine investment in the athletes he coaches. Having grown up in the swimming community, Braden brings a deep passion for the sport and an understanding of what it takes to help athletes reach their potential. He is one of Utah's up-and-coming coaches, and I'm excited to see him contribute to a program with such a proud and successful history," McAllister said.
Christine McEldery, head coach of Utah Valley Aquatics, highlighted Tiffany's passion for swimming and coaching.
"Braden is one of those people for whom swimming is simply part of his DNA. He loves the sport, loves coaching it, and loves seeing athletes discover what they're capable of," McEldery said.
Trent Weight, general chair of Utah Swimming, also praised Tiffany's athlete-first approach.
"Braden is an excellent coach who is in it for the athletes," Weight said.

Southern Illinois faces Missouri State on Friday, Oct. 2, at 3 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m. in Carbondale.
