Salukis put six-game win streak on the line vs. Murray State

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois returns home Saturday to continue Missouri Valley Conference play, hosting Murray State at 6 p.m. at the Lew Hartzog Track & Field Complex.
The Salukis enter the matchup riding a school record six-game winning streak after earning a 2-1 victory at Evansville last Saturday. Southern improved to 7-2-0 overall and 1-0 in MVC play with the win.
Dixon led the way against the Purple Aces, scoring twice in the opening 26 minutes. Hassan assisted on both goals as the Salukis built a 2-0 lead before halftime.
Southern's defense also continued its strong stretch, allowing just one goal against Evansville. The goal was the first allowed by the Salukis since Aug. 20.
Murray State enters Saturday's matchup with a 1-7-2 overall record and a 0-1-0 mark in MVC play. The Racers are coming off a 1-0 loss to Illinois State in their conference opener on Sept. 20. The two teams finished even at 14 shots apiece, while Illinois State held a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal.
The Racers have scored seven goals and allowed 14 through 10 matches this season

Preseason Honors
Southern Illinois was selected fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll with 59 points. Junior Guliana Balistreri earned a spot on the preseason all-conference team.
Brooke Gosse received MVC Player of the Week recognition Aug. 18 after scoring twice against Western Illinois. Penny Warner also earned the weekly award following her hat trick in Southern's program-record 8-0 victory over Alabama A&M.
Reagan Miller was named MVC Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 15 after recording two shutouts and helping the Salukis extend their winning streak to five matches. The honor marked her third career MVC Goalkeeper of the Week selection.
Maya Dixon was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week following her two-goal performance in Southern Illinois' 2-1 victory over Evansville on Sept. 19. Dixon scored twice in the opening 26 minutes, with both goals assisted by Victoria Hassan.
